Male Breast Reduction/Gynecomastia

Male Breast Reduction: Getting rid of Gynecomastia

Let’s face it, when you think of breast reduction surgery, the first thing that comes to mind isn’t “man.” That’s completely normal, as the majority of breast reduction procedures, both here in Marin County, and all over the Bay Area and the US, are performed on women. In fact, for our patients in Santa Rosa, Sausalito, San Rafael, Mill Valley, Simi Valley, and San Francisco, breast reductions are very popular, especially when it comes to back/spine health, and overall comfort. But that doesn’t mean that they’re just for women. In fact, it’s becoming more and more popular for men each year!

Why is it still a taboo?

Advances in technology and surgical techniques have made Male Breast Reduction a very viable procedure for men of all ages. The problem is, as men, they often have a hard time asking about it, out of fear of judgment, or just plain not knowing that it’s out there. But just because you don’t hear a lot about Male Breast Reduction, doesn’t mean that men aren’t getting it done. Actually, you may even know men who have had the procedure and just not talked to you about it yet. This is why we think it’s important to bring it out in the open, and break the taboo of silence around one of the most effective male cosmetic procedures we offer.

Let’s face it, most men want sculpted, strong looking chest muscles

Just like women, men know that their appearance adds confidence; and a toned, shaped body doesn’t just look good, it feels good too. But life often has other plans for us when it comes to our body’s shape and tone. According to studies, around 50% of adult males suffer from excess fat tissue in their breast area (gynecomastia), and that leads to a lot of self-confidence, and comfort issues for many men. Even men who are in shape may have this problem, leaving them frustrated, as it’s often the missing piece to the body they want.

This is why, we believe, Male Breast Reduction can be a huge benefit for men of all ages and body types, and something we are proud to offer here at our Marin County clinic.

How Dr. Mohebali Performs Male Breast Reduction Procedures

Much like female breast reduction or augmentation, we use a technique that leaves minimal scarring, and maximum post-procedural comfort. Some times, only a non-invasive liposuction procedure is required. Other times, we may need to make an incision to remove fat. In the case of surgery, the incision is made around the areola at the base of the nipple. Many men, and women here in Marin County prefer this incision method as it is the most aesthetically pleasing, and leaves little visible marks or scaring. We then remove the fat and excessive glandular tissue, and may use a combination of both excision surgery and liposuction, depending on your body type.
