Get over your fears of plastic surgery

Learning to Get Over Your Fears When it Comes to Surgery

Fear is an unavoidable, and natural part of life. It’s something we all have to deal with at certain points, and something we all struggle to get over at certain points as well. This is no different when it comes to cosmetic surgery. Changing your physical structure, look, and how your body feels is a big deal, and can generate a certain level of apprehension or fear in some people. While it’s totally understandable, you deserve to know that cosmetic surgery is incredibly safe. It’s also far more common than you may think, meaning that fears of being ostracized or sticking out are just that, fears. For anyone who’s still a bit skeptical, here are our tips on how to push through your doubts, and see the benefits of cosmetic surgery first hand.

The first step is to do the research

According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), roughly 15 million cosmetic surgery procedures are performed in the United States each year. That means that if you live here in the San Francisco Bay area, chances are you know more than one person who’s had some work done. Of these procedures, 91% were performed on women, and fatalities or serious injuries from qualified doctors are so rare, that they make up less than a fraction of a tenth of a percent. The most common cosmetic surgery procedures are botox injections and breast augmentations, making up nearly half of all procedures annually. If your fear is that you’re going to be socially judged for electing to have body work done, think again.

Talk to your doctor, and other women (and men) who have had procedures done

It’s a hard subject to bring up if you’re not close with someone, but if you know someone who’s open about their procedures and willing to talk, pick their brain about it! Community support is critical when it comes to overcoming your fears, and there’s no better way than to get information from people just like you. You can also go online and check out a variety of forums on the subject, and of course, talk to your physician as well. Here at Mohebali Plastic Surgery, we go through a thorough consultation process before any surgery is performed, and we can answer any of your questions or concerns that may arise along the way.
